Cowan Head is located midway between Kendal and Windermere and is just three quarters of a mile from the A591 which links to junction 36 of the M6.

The main buildings are grouped attractively around the former mill race and mill pond through which the river Kent is funneled over rocks in turbulent white water on it's journey to the river estuary at Arnside. A stone bridge links the buildings on each side of the river and provides access to the golf practice greens and barbecue area. Local shopping facilities are available in the nearby villages of Staveley (1mile) and Burneside (1mile). A broader range of shopping and other facilities are available in the towns of Kendal (3miles) and Windermere(6miles). Despite such proximity Cowan Head is very secluded, set among pastures and woodland in the river valley with access to remote tarns set high up in the fells above the estate.

Popular Lake District destinations such as Grasmere, the Langdales and Ambleside are just a short drive away. Excellent hill walking is right on the doorstep with Kentmere, Longsleddale and Mardale all within easy access.
